Counting down to Paris-Roubaix

Like everyone else on the planet with more than a passing interest in cycling, I am counting down to Paris-Roubaix.

I’ve re-watched vintage You Tube video clips and relived Boonen’s epic ride from last year.

But somehow, mixed in with this excitement of reliving events from yesteryear, and the anticipation of what is to come, is the dreaded feeling that I have been asked to write another article in a similar vein to my piece last week. (If you haven’t read last weeks post on, why not? If I may so so myself, it is hilarious).

So, here’s the problem. I feel like a bloke who’s somehow, against all the forces of nature, managed to get himself a second date with the world’s most supremely hottest chick.

This guy has used up all of his best material on date one.

Who expected date two? Now, all of the pressure of the world is on me to come up with another slightly cheeky, but not offensive, serving of my light hearted and tongue caved firmly in my check, take on Paris-Roubaix.

But, and here is the but, is it appropriate to take a humorous look at the race called, The Hell of the North?

Just read or watch anything on this race.

No one is laughing.

No one is cracking jokes.

I can’t help but get the feeling that this could turn out to be a little like rocking up to an even like a royal coronation, or inauguration of the first female US president and attempt a comedy routine.

Then again, there has to be a first for everything………..

Wish me luck!
